The New York Milk Bank (NYMB) is the first and only nonprofit milk bank in New York that collects extra breast milk from healthy lactating women, pasteurizes it and distributes it to babies in need. Opening in 2016, NYMB has screened over 5000 donors and distributed over 1 million ounces of safely pasteurized donor milk primarily to premature and medically fragile infants. When a mother’s own milk is unavailable or insufficient, the American Academy of Pediatrics recommends preterm infants receive pasteurized donor human milk.
